Zhuhai Grand Theatre is located on the seaside of Yeli Island, Qingshou Road, Zhuhai. It is the only opera house in China built on an island, with a total construction area of 59,000 square meters. The Zhuhai Grand Theatre project will adopt the world's advanced sound, optical design and stage technology design. The grand theater can accommodate 1,600 people and consists of three parts: the foyer, the auditorium and the stage. It meets the needs of large-scale musicals, ballets, dramas, symphonies and large-scale comprehensive performances. The small theater can hold 500 people. The large and small theaters are shaped like two shells of the sun and moon, also known as "Big Shell" or "Small Shell", among which the "Big Shell" has a maximum height of 90 meters. The Zhuhai Grand Theatre was officially approved in 1992, construction began in 2010, and its first performance was held on January 1, 2017.

The Zhuhai Grand Theatre is shaped like two groups of "shells", one large and one small. During the day, it presents a semi-transparent effect, and at night, it is as crystal clear as moonlight. The saying "Pearls are born of shells, and shells are born of the sea" interprets the rich historical and cultural heritage of Zhuhai as a city that was the first in Chinese mainland to embrace Marine civilization.

The design plan of Zhuhai Grand Theatre not only draws inspiration from the unique Marine species "Sun, Moon and Shell", but also refines the image of "shell", further expressing the significance of the space with modern building materials and technologies. The two groups of "shell" shapes, one large and one small, form the overall image of the opera house. It can be seen standing gracefully on the sea surface in a very wide area of the city. The surrounding landscape design, inspired by the beautiful fins of fish, not only highlights the echo with shells but also further enhances the characteristics of the coastal architecture.
